Years in the corporate world

A global career built at the sharp end

I grew up in the northeast of Scotland and built a career that took me around the world, living and working in Australia, the US, Canada, London and throughout Europe and Asia.

My world was ad tech, media and advertising. I worked with agencies, publishers and household names including CNN, The Guardian and many of the world's most ambitious startups. I was drawn to that energy, the ambition, the sleeves-rolled-up moments where things are being built from nothing. That's where I learned what Founders and Leaders really face. And why I love working with them today.

In 2018 I joined Keynes as Fractional COO, a role I held for four years. I brought coaching and leadership development into the heart of the business. Keynes has since raised $40 million. I now serve as Board Advisor.

The turning point

Burnout changed everything

In 2014, after years of relentless travel, building businesses and operating in high-pressure startup environments, I hit a wall. Physical and mental exhaustion. Complete burnout.

I didn't have the tools to say no. I didn't understand what stress was doing to my body. I had no boundaries. Sound familiar?

That experience led me to start my own consultancy and to begin the most important journey of my life. I started exploring mindfulness and meditation, then trained in NLP coaching, Generative Change consultancy and eventually Hypnotherapy under Paul McKenna.

In 2020 I founded The Moment Company, my first venture into the mindset and wellness space. It was the beginning of something that would eventually become Boo Tickety.

"Working on myself made significant changes in my personal life. And that had a profound impact on my career."

The personal journey

You can't take off who you are at the door

I am seven years sober. In 2020, I lost my dad and in the years that followed, four more family members and close friends. That depth of grief taught me things that no training programme ever could.

It taught me that the most important conversations are often the ones we're told not to have in professional settings. That you cannot put on a coat and become someone else when you walk into a boardroom. You are who you are on the inside.

In Generative Change, we call it bringing the whole self. It's at the heart of everything I do.

"In business, we're often told to leave it at the door. I don't believe you can take off a coat and be somebody else when you walk into a professional room."

The name

Why Boo Tickety?

The phrase 'tickety-boo' is thought to come from an old British-Hindi/Hindustani phrase "thhik hai, babu" meaning "everything is just fine, boss". It has a connotation of lightness, ease and playfulness.

My dad, Alex, loved to play with words, often deliberately getting phrases the wrong way around, including boo tickety. The sentiment of the phrase remains exactly the same as its original: everything is good, and is a reminder to get playful now and again.
